AUDITION NOTICE: Abigail’s Party
WT is committed to being a diverse and open organisation. Auditions are open to anyone, regardless of background or experience, and we particularly welcome those who have been traditionally under-represented in theatre.
Please note that these auditions have now closed.
Hi, my name is Liz George and I feel extremely privileged and excited to be given the opportunity to direct Abigail’s Party at Wokingham Theatre. The first show that I was involved with at WT was Glorious! in January 2017 as the production manager. However, I am primarily a stage manager and have been involved in a number of shows since then, both backstage and/or operating the sound, including The 39 Steps, Goodnight Mr. Tom, The Lady Killers and Audience/The Real Inspector Hound. I have also previously directed shows at Shinfield Players Theatre including Black Comedy, Something Unspoken and of course Abigail’s Party! Rachel Pearson has kindly agreed to be my Assistant Director.
Synopsis: The show is a dark comedy set in 1970’s suburbia. Beverly Moss and her husband invite her new neighbours, Angela and Tony over for drinks. She has also asked her divorced neighbour Susan, whose fifteen-year-old daughter Abigail is holding a party back in their house.
Character breakdown (with playing ages)
- Beverly, (30 +) – flirty, overbearing hostess
- Laurence (40 +) – (Beverly’s husband), uptight workaholic, taunted by Beverly
- Angie (25 +) – naive neighbour of Beverly, eager to please
- Tony (30 +) – ‘just a little bit nasty’ husband of Angie, man of few words
- Susan (40 +) – put upon divorcee, whose teenage daughter Abigail is having a party next door
Performance Dates: Weds 8th September to Sat 18th September 2021
