AUDITION NOTICE: The Father

Synopsis: While Andre may be apt to forget things, they are only ever small things. He is an aging man facing persecution from all sides. First, a ‘helper’ steals his favourite watch. Then his daughter Anne, a scheming woman who worries too much, tries to take his apartment away. His other daughter Elise, the one he actually loves… where is she?
The Father by Florian Zeller (trans. Christopher Hampton) is a tragi-comic mystery that is a sobering look at the world through the eyes of a man experiencing dementia, whose daughter desperately tries to care for him, as he fights to maintain his autonomy and identity. We are really looking forward to bringing this play to the WT stage. It will be something different and emotionally-engaging for all involved. Florian Zeller’s script plays with concepts of memory-loss and confused perceptions, carrying the audience themselves on this journey. This is a play with technical complexities and also offers a superb opportunity for the cast to perform with pathos and detailed emotion.

We would also like to invite anyone with experience in video creation (both filming and editing) to please contact us if you are interested in getting involved with this production. This play lends itself well to having some video projections during the scene transitions. We would like to explore ways of creating these bespoke clips, combining filming live action pieces with stock material, and applying ‘vintage’ effects.

Auditions: Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th January (7:45pm – Location TBC).
Auditions will involve reading parts of scenes in pairs or groups. No preparation necessary.
Performance dates are 28th April to 7th May 2022; rehearsals will likely commence from early February 2022.
